Sleepover

A few nights ago I was in the older girl’s room. They didn’t want me to leave, they instead wanted me to spend the night. I knew I couldn’t, but it got me to thinking. When I was their age one of my favorite things to do was sleep under the stars. Even now sleep/campouts are the best! So I suggested this to Chantel and Lauren and they thought it was a good idea, so we asked Mrs. Waid. Well, she wasn’t sure about a sleep-out, but suggested instead a sleepover in our house, it would still be special for the girls. We liked the idea and decided Thursday nights would be the best time since Friday there is no school. Last night we had invited five girls over. We hadn’t really talked to their ‘mom’ though and so before worship last night Banni came running up to our room and was like “the girls you invited can’t come because they wet the bed.” It was a surprise to us to say the least, but at the same time, Mrs. Waid had mentioned earlier about this problem with many of the children, so it wasn’t a surprise at the same time. It is sad that 8 and 9 year-olds have that problem.
We knew that we would need more than an hour in order to this out so we decided to postpone the sleepover and instead just to have the girls we invited over and to have a slumber party without the ‘slumber’ part, just the party part!
We taught them twister. That was crazy! They definitely had more fun knocking each other over than trying to stay up, plus they didn’t really understand that you could only touch the mat with the hands/feet that were called and only on those colors. But they had fun, we had fun, it was all good. After that we taught them down-by-the-banks. We ended up only playing it once though, it is an elimination game and not so fun for those eliminated, although they all were pretty good sports about it. We then did telephone! That was interesting! With these children, you can’t really give sentences, so we just gave words. Somehow the first two words ended up being Lauren and Chantel at the end of the circle, which wasn’t even close to what it started out as!!
It was a fun night and after we took them back to their room, we talked and decided that we would just stick with doing that, at least until we figure out how to deal with the bed wetting. A huge bonus to doing just a party is now we can have the boys up as well, they were disappointed that they would never get to come.
